After a horrid Big Bash League (BBL) 12 campaign, Melbourne Stars have finally opted for a change in their coaching set-up as they have appointed former England head coach Peter Moores as their new head coach for the next two editions of the BBL.

Stars had a season to forget during the latest edition of the tournament. The side finished in last place in the competition standings with just six points in 14 matches. The franchise will hope that the change in coaching will bring about some good luck for them and potentially guide them to their first BBL title.

Peter Moores brings a plethora of experience with him. He also became the only coach to have led three county sides to various trophy finishes. Guiding Sussex to their championship title in 2003, won Lancashire their first County Championship title in 2011, and has won many trophies with Nottinghamshire as well.

Apart from his record in domestic cricket, Peter Moores has also excelled on the international stage. He was the head coach of England from 2007 to 2009 and then again from 2014-2015 as well. His experience and ability to lead teams to trophies could help Melbourne Stars in the long run.

It’s a great honour: Moores

Following his appointment as the head coach of Melbourne Stars, Moores came forward to give his take on his new stint. The 60-year-old opined that he is really looking forward to the opportunity and to work with the team for the next two seasons.

“It’s a great honour to be appointed as the Melbourne Stars Head Coach for the next two seasons. I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to work with some of the best players in the world but also to help develop the rest of the squad to get this club back where they belong,” Moores was quoted as saying by Melbourne Stars.

“I have loved watching the Big Bash from afar and I cannot wait to be a part of the competition and get to work with the squad,” he added.
