After losing against Sri Lanka in their opening fixture, Bangladesh led by Shakib Al Hasan now lock horns with Afghanistan in Match No.4 of the sixteenth edition of the Asia Cup. The Group B encounter is all set to take place on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Speaking in detail about Bangladesh’s loss, only Najmul Hossain Shanto turned out to be the shining light for them. The left-handed batter smashed 89 off 122 but failed to get support from the other players. Young seamer Matheesha Pathirana was the pick of the Sri Lankan bowlers for his spell of 4/32 in 7.4 overs. The Bangla Tigers could only manage to post 164 on the board in 42.4 overs.
Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka then struck their respective fifties as the Lankan Lions beat their opposition comfortably by five wickets. Shakib and his men will hope to turn things around quickly and claim a victory in what is supposed to be a do-or-die clash for the Tigers as they look to stay alive in the competition. Meanwhile, the Afghans will be confident as they beat Bangladesh 2-1 at their own den in July this year.
