The BCCI’s (Board of Control for Cricket in India) secretary, Jay Shah, recently came forward and answered several questions about the board’s upcoming projects. One of the biggest things that the Indian men’s team will be looking forward to is their upcoming multi-format series against Bangladesh.

Both sides will lock horns in two Test matches and three T20Is. The first Test will kick off at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on September 19, and ahead of the series, Jay Shah took center stage and expressed how important the Bangladesh series is to the BCCI.

Jay Shah revealed that he has not spoken to the new authorities in charge in Bangladesh, and if they do not contact the BCCI, then they themselves will get in touch with him.

“We’ve not spoken to them (the Bangladesh authorities). A new government has taken charge there. They might reach out to us or else I will reach out to them. The Bangladesh series is very important to us,” Shah said in an interaction with the Times Group journalists at the TOI’s Mumbai office.

I don’t want to give any kind of signals: Shah

Furthermore, Jay Shah was asked about the possibility of India hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup. The marquee event is set to kick off on October 3, with Bangladesh hosting the proceedings. However, due to the political unrest in the country, there is the possibility of India hosting the tournament. Speaking on the same, Shah denied wanting to host the event. He opined that with India hosting the Women’s ODI World Cup in 2025, he did not want to give the impression of wanting to host back-to-back World Cups.

“They (ICC) have asked us if we would conduct the World Cup. I have categorically said no, we’re in the monsoon, and on top of that we will host the women’s ODI World Cup next year. I don’t want to give any kind of signals that I want to hold consecutive World Cups,” Jay Shah said.
