The Bangladesh Cricket Board has come forward and stated that they are confident of hosting the upcoming ICC Women’s Twenty20 World Cup 2024 as per schedule, despite the political unrest in the country. According to earlier reports, the ICC (International Cricket Council) has been monitoring the situation in Bangladesh.

The country’s government had to impose an emergency last week that is yet to be lifted to control the affairs of the state following killings and protests on the streets. It is worth noting that the women’s T20 World Cup is slated for October 3–20. 10 sides will take part in 23 matches over 18 days across two venues in Bangladesh.

With the internet shut down in many parts of Bangladesh and many foreign students leaving the country, the ICC has been concerned about the smooth conduct of the Women’s T20 World Cup.

We are hopeful that everything will be fine in the coming days – BCB Women’s wing Chairman

“As of today all I know is that we are hosting the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup as per plan and we are working accordingly keeping that in mind,” BCB chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury told Cricbuzz

The BCB president, Nazmul Hasan, and chief executive had returned to Dhaka after an ICC meeting in Colombo on July 26. Furthermore, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, who is the BCB women’s wing chairman and member of parliament from the ruling party, recently stated that they are not aiming to panic as there is enough time for the board to organise the World Cup.

“We are hopeful that everything will be fine in the coming days. The Australians and England team visited here in difficult times earlier when the political situation was quite violent or say when there was corona. The situation is not like that and the condition is improving with passing days and we are hopeful about hosting the tournament and we are taking the preparation as per our planning,” Shaiful said.
