The BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) recently came forward and announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming T20I series against India. The series is all set to begin on October 6. Both sides will face off across three T20Is on October 6, 9, and 12.

As the BCB announced the squad, the selectors recalled Mehidy Hasan Miraz for the three-game affair. Miraz played his last T20I in July 2023 and has missed the shortest format for the national team, despite being a core player in the ODI and Test set-up.

Furthermore, opener Parvez Hossain Emon and left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan were also recalled to the squad. Shakib Al Hasan will not feature for the side, with Soumya Sarkar missing out from the squad as well.

Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead Bangladesh against India in the T20I series, and the side will hope to put in a good performance in the shortest format, having lost the first Test of the ongoing series and the second Test barreling towards a draw.

One of the biggest talking points was the absence of Shakib Al Hasan from the squad. The veteran already announced that he would be retiring from Tests and T20Is, and selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain came forward and paid tribute to Shakib.

“The great Shakib Al Hasan has already announced that he has played his last T20I for Bangladesh. We don’t have anyone to replace his experience and performance but we feel that Mehidy Hasan Miraz is a good batter who can handle the middle order. Mehidy can play as a batter. We didn’t pick him in the previous [T20] World Cup as we usually feel that he has a strong role as an allrounder in Tests and ODIs,” Ashraf was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
