The second T20I between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in Sylhet saw a controversial decision from the third umpire, which infuriated the visitors. Notably, during the fourth over of the match, Soumya Sarkar nicked one, which went straight to wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis. The on-field umpire called out but the Bangladesh opener immediately asked to review it.

In the DRS, a clear spike was spotted when the ball was passing the bat but TV umpire Masudur Rahman couldn’t find conclusive evidence and asked the on-field umpire to reverse his decision. Soumya, who was on his way back to the dressing room after seeing the replay on the big screen, made his return back to the crease as the Sri Lankan players were seen protesting on the field. Other than a clear spike, there was also a loud noise but Musudur remained adamant, saying that there was no conclusive evidence.

The Sri Lankan camp was extremely disappointed with the development as assistant coach Naveed Nawaz revealed that they would take the matter to the match referee. He added that the team didn’t have a hold of the footage but saw the replay on the big screen.

“The on-field umpire had given him out and I am sure the TV umpire got to have conclusive evidence to overturn the on-field umpire’s decision. We haven’t seen the footage or anything like that but it was clear that there was a spike, we saw it on the big screen and we might have to take it up to the match referee and see what actually happened there. The footage that we have got on our screens were not enough to say anything but I am sure the TV umpire had evidence to overturn the decision,” Nawaz was quoted as saying by NDTV.

Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by eight wickets

After suffering a thrilling defeat in the first T20I, Bangladesh made an emphatic return in Sylhet. Chasing 166 runs, Litton Das gave a good start to the hosts and later skipper Najmul Shanto joined the party. He made 53* runs off 38 deliveries, which helped Bangladesh make a comeback in the series.
