After a lacklustre display in India, Bangladesh changed their coach with the hope of turning things around in the upcoming two-match series against South Africa. New head coach Phil Simmons is confident but it is not going to be an easy task for the hosts. They played some remarkable cricket in Pakistan, winning the series 0-2 but against India, they lacked character. The Najmul Shanto-led side will be hoping to produce a better performance as South Africa on paper look strong.
Notably, Bangladesh will miss the service of veteran Shakib Al Hasan in the first Test. He was expected to feature but the all-rounder is currently ‘unavailable’ as left-arm spinner Hasan Murad has been called up as his replacement. The pace attack meanwhile looks sorted with Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana in the mix. However, the team management understands the surface of Dhaka will favour the spinners and they have prepared themselves for the same.

For South Africa, Nandre Burger will be unavailable for the series and so will Anrich Nortje, who previously stated that he doesn’t want to play all the series. Their captain Temba Bavuma will miss only the first Test as he is dealing with a muscle strain in his left triceps. Aiden Markram will lead the side in his absence. The all-rounder will also be key for the team’s success alongside Tristan Stubbs and Keshav Maharaj.
