On the final delivery of the 119th over of the Indian first innings at the MCG, Australia skipper Pat Cummins bowled a cracking yorker towards Mohammed Siraj. The delivery seemed to take an edge, and as the ball landed in Steve Smith’s hands at second slip, celebrations were underway from the Australian side.

With no clarity for the on-field umpires, the third umpire was referred to instead. Upon referral, the third umpire determined that the ball had touched the ground after hitting the bottom edge of the bat. Disappointed with the decision, Cummins argued with the on-field umpire and attempted to call for a review of the decision.

However, he was quickly told that the same would not be possible. Witnessing the moment, former India cricketer Irfan Pathan, who was commentating on the game, made a cheeky comment about how Cummins think that it is 2008.

“Cummins asking for a review of the third umpire’s decision. Australia thinks this is 2008, but that is not the case,” Pathan said.

It is worth noting that Irfan Pathan was referring to the 2008 India VS Australia series where it was seen that the umpires favoured the Aussies.
