Harmanpreet Kaur‘s team India has been fined 10 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate in the second ODI of their ICC Women’s Championship series against Australia at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane on Sunday, December 8.

Match Referee David Gilbert imposed the sanction after the Women in Blue were ruled to be two overs shy of the target after taking time allowances into account.

Following Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

Harmanpreet pled guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so a formal hearing wasn’t needed. On-field umpires Claire Polosak and Donovan Koch, third umpire Jacquline Williams, and fourth umpire David Taylor levelled the charge.

Australia tormented India during the three-match series and eventually won all three games convincingly. Tahlia McGrath and Co. won the first and second ODIs in Brisbane by five wickets and 122 runs, respectively. The final ODI was held in Perth and the home side registered an 83-run victory to send India home empty-handed.

What’s next for Team India?

After being annihilated by the world champions, India will take on the West Indies in three T20Is and as many ODIs at home. The T20Is will be played at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on December 15, 17, and 19. Meanwhile, the ODIs are scheduled to be played at the Reliance Stadium in Vadodara on December 22, 24, and 27.

After a disappointing first-round exit in the T20 World Cup and the drubbing against the Aussies, India will look to turn their fortunes in front of their home fans against an unpredictable West Indies side led by talismanic all-rounder Hayley Matthews.
