‘At times it is going to be pretty exciting and hostile cricket’ – Alex Carey reacts to Ollie Robinson’s celebration after Usman Khawaja’s wicket

Australia opener Usman Khawaja was phenomenal with the bat and courtesy of his knock, Australia posted 386 runs on board in the first innings. On a pitch where all the Australian top order batters struggled to get going, Khawaja held his nerves and stuck to the crease, which eventually helped the visiting team make a remarkable comeback in the first Ashes Test.

Notably, England looked frustrated as none of their plans was really working against the opener. That’s when skipper Ben Stokes changed the field set-up and came up with ‘Brumbella’, where he put six fielders in catching position inside the 30-yard circle in order to create some pressure on Khawaja. Looking at the same, the 36-year-old took the challenge and tried to dance down the track to hit a boundary but Ollie Robinson’s pitch-perfect yorker got the better of the cricketer.

Following that, the ace pacer was spotted celebrating in an aggressive manner as he ran towards the batter, giving him an expletive-laden send-off. Meanwhile, the Australian dressing room looked disappointed as Khawaja, who hit his maiden century in England, had to walk back to the pavilion after scoring 141 runs.

Talking about Robinson’s aggressive celebration, Australia stumper-batter Alex Carey mentioned that he didn’t see anything from the dressing room but he expects something similar as Ashes often see exciting cricket and hostile situations.

“I didn’t see it. Usman hasn’t said anything. It’s an Ashes, at times it is going to be pretty exciting and hostile cricket. I was sitting there disappointed on getting out, but didn’t see anything over the top there,” Carey was quoted as saying by India Today.

Just because the shoe is on the other foot it’s not received well: Robinson

Defending himself, Ollie Robinson stated that Australia did something similar multiple times in the past but the media didn’t say a word, but since an Englishman did it this time, it has not been received well. The pacer also added that things like this can happen in the heat of the moment as everyone is passionate about the Ashes.

“When you’re in the heat of the moment and you have the passion of the Ashes, that can happen. We’ve all seen Ricky Ponting and other Aussies do the same to us, and just because the shoe is on the other foot it’s not received well,” Robinson said.
