The Asia Cup 2023 is right around the corner; the marquee tournament is all set to begin on August 30, with Pakistan and Sri Lanka co-hosting the proceedings. After a lot of controversies, it was decided that the two nations would co-host the tournament due to the BCCI’s (Board of Control for Cricket in India) reluctance to allow Team India to travel to Pakistan.
It is worth noting that the tournament will be held in the ODI format in 2023, due to the ODI World Cup 2023 rapidly approaching, scheduled to begin on October 5. The first game of the Asia Cup 2023 will be between Pakistan and Nepal on August 30, and both sides will battle it out for their first points in the group stages in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
Furthermore, the competition will consist of six teams, which are divided into two groups of three (Groups A and B). The top two sides in the two groups will qualify for the Super Four stage, which will be another round-robin series of matches, with the top two teams playing the summit clash of the competition. The final will be played in Sri Lanka’s capital city, Colombo, on September 17.
The group stage of the Asia Cup 2023 will be played from August 30 to September 5. Out of the 13 total matches, three will be played in Pakistan, with Sri Lanka hosting the rest of the games.
