It has been a rollercoaster ride in Colombo. The match that lasted for two days finally saw a conclusion, as India managed to defeat Pakistan by 228 runs. Batting first, the Men in Blue started in an aggressive fashion as both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill started remarkably well with the bat. They decided to go after Shaheen Shah Afridi, and that set the tone of the match. Rohit and Gill went on to hit their respective half-centuries as they posted 56 and 58 runs, respectively.

However, rain played spoilsport multiple times during their batting. The game was forced to stop twice before Virat Kohli and KL Rahul took the matter into their own hands. Meanwhile, due to rain, only 24.1 overs could be played on Sunday, and the match eventually moved to reserve day.

On Monday, both Virat Kohli and KL Rahul played some sensational cricket and hit centuries to destroy Pakistan’s momentum. They decimated all the bowlers and hit 122* runs and 111*, respectively, as the Rohit Sharma-led side posted 356 runs in the first innings. Interestingly, Kohli smashed multiple records; he completed 13,000 runs in ODI cricket and also completed his 77th century in international cricket.

When it came to the chase, Pakistan lost wickets at a quick rate, and that kept on building the pressure. Jasprit Bumrah picked up the wicket of Imam-ul-Haq, while Hardik Pandya sent Babar Azam back to the pavilion. Later on, Kuldeep Yadav picked up five wickets while Shardul Thakur bowled brilliantly.

Overall, India will be extremely proud of their win and the manner in which they did it. Be it with the bat or the ball, they were sensational and got the job done against their arch-rivals. However, even after a compact performance, the team will not get any rest as they will take the field on Tuesday, September 12, against defending champions Sri Lanka, who are yet to lose a game in this competition.
