After months of controversies and discussions, the 2023 Asia Cup is all set to begin on August 30. The tournament will be held in a hybrid model, with Pakistan and Sri Lanka co-hosting the competition. With the ACC (Asian Cricket Council) announcing the schedule for the Asia Cup, the six teams will be split up into two groups where they will aim to finish in the top two in order to make it to the knockout stages.
The summit clash of the competition is scheduled to be held on September 17, with Colombo hosting the proceedings. Notably, the Asia Cup will be played in the 50-over format this time around to help the sides better prepare for the upcoming ODI World Cup that is scheduled to begin on October 5, with India hosting the marquee tournament.
It is notable that four matches of the Asia Cup 2023 will be played in Pakistan, with nine of them being hosted by Sri Lanka. The hybrid model of the competition was accepted after months of controversies and discussions between the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board), the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and the ACC.
Six of the best teams from Asia will soon be going head-to-head to take on each other for the coveted title. Sri Lanka won the previous edition of the tournament in 2022 when it was organised in the T20I format, and it could be interesting to see which side comes out on top when the teams go against one another.
