Match 6 of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 will feature a clash between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Tuesday, September 5.
Sri Lanka will be coming into the game on the back of a brilliant win against Bangladesh in their first game of the tournament. After losing the toss, Sri Lanka bowled first and did a commendable job of limiting their opponents to a low total of just 164. Sri Lanka chased the target with ease, winning the game by five wickets eventually.
On the other hand, Afghanistan faced Bangladesh in their first game , however, it did not fare well for the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side, as bowling first, Afghanistan conceded 334 runs against Bangladesh in the first innings.
As they aimed to chase down the mammoth target, they fell prey to the brilliance of the Bangladesh bowlers, only managing 245 before they were bundled outto lose the game by 89 runs. As they gear up to take on Sri Lanka, they will hope for a different outcome.
Pitch and Conditions
The surface at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore is one that is heavily preferred by the batters. The ball almost always comes nicely on the bat, and a high-scoring encounter could be expected. Opting to bowl first and chase the target down could prove to be a wise decision on a pitch like this.
