Asia Cup 2023: Fakhar Zaman helps ground staff put covers as rain halts India-Pakistan clash

The Super Four stage clash between India and Pakistan began at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo on September 10. Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl first. The rain stopped play in the 25th over and India were at 147 with the loss of two wickets. Meanwhile, Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman was spotted helping the ground staff get the pitch covered following the rain.

India got off to an explosive start, with openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill  going all guns blazing. The duo scored fifties and managed to create an 121-run partnership for the opening wicket.

india skipper scored 56 off 49 deliveries, including six boundaries and four maximums before falling short for all-rounder Shadab Khan. Meanwhile, the youngster amassed 58 runs with the help of ten fours. The 24-year-old was dismissed by star speedster Shahaeen Shah Afridi with Salman Ali Agha completing a straightforward catch.

Fakhar Zaman’s form major concern for Pakistan

Fakhar’s form has been a major concern for Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. The 33-year-old’s performances in the continental championship has been dismal thus far as the opening batter has only scored 34 runs at an average of 17 so far in the tournament.

He scored just 20 off 18 deliveries in Pakistan’s Super Four stage opener against Bangladesh. Notably, the Men in Green outplayed Shakib Al Hasan and Co. by seven wickets with 63 balls to spare.

Fakhar is expected to play a noteworthy innings for Pakistan in the ongoing game against India as well as the forthcoming Super Four clash against co-hosts Sri Lanka. The match between the previous Asia Cup finalists will be contested in Colombo on September 14.
