England speedster Mark Wood created a humorous scene when skipper Ben Stokes was getting set to answer questions during the press conference on the eve of the fifth and final Test of the 2023 Ashes, which will be played at The Oval from July 27.
While Stokes had just settled into his seat in the pre-match press conference room at The Oval, he heard the renowned ‘Barbie Girl’ song playing in the background. Even as the reporters in the room laughed, the all-rounder looked bemused by hearing the music. The all-rounder then realised that the Barbie song was being played by his teammate Wood.
England Cricket took to Twitter to share the video and captioned it, “As Ben Stokes was sitting down for his pre-match press conference… Mark Wood decided to hijack the microphone and have a bit of fun. Barbie 1-0 Oppenheimer.”
The song ‘Barbie Girl’, featured in the end credits of the Greta Gerwig directed Hollywood film ‘Barbie’, was released worldwide on July 21. Barbie quickly became a sensation since its release, grossing an astonishing USD 356 million in the first weekend itself. Interestingly, the popularity of this movie was made even more amazing by the fact that it managed to topple Christopher Nolan’s biographical thriller ‘Oppenheimer’, released on the same day.

Ben Stokes and Co. will be motivated to win the final Test to prevent Australia from clinching their first away Ashes since 2001. With the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester finished in draw due to prolonged rain. As a result the tourists retained the urn, acquiring an unassailable 2-1 lead in the five-game series.
The hosts performed admirably in the Manchester Test, taking a 275-run lead before having Australia FIVE down by stumps on Day 4. However, rain washed out the final day, hindering England’s attempt to square the series.
