Former India cricketer Abhinav Mukund stated that young Australia all-rounder Annabell Sutherland could be most expensive pick at the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 auction. The much-awaited auction is scheduled to be held in Mumbai on December 9, Saturday.
While speaking on his social media account, Mukund expressed his excitement to cover the mini auction. A total of 165 players will go under the hammer, for 30 spots across five teams- Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz, Gujarat Giants, and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
“Excited to cover the WPL auction today. Just a few slots to fill for certain teams but 165 players go under the hammer. Annabel Sutherland is my pick for costliest at this auction,” the 33-year-old said.
Sutherland is coming off a remarkable Women’s Big Bash League with the Melbourne Stars. The 22-year-old claimed 23 wickets and amassed 288 runs. Moreover, the all-rounder bowled 117 dot balls in the tournament.
The youngster has already made noteworthy strides in both domestic and international level. The 22-year-old has been outstanding in the field with her right-hand batting and right-arm medium-fast bowling. She began her domestic career debuting for Melbourne Renegades in the WBBL when she was just 15 years old in 2016. She also etched her name in the history books becoming the youngest player to feature in the WBBL.
Courtesy of her impressive performances at the domestic level, she earned the international call-up in January 2020, as she was named in Australia’s squads for the 2020 Australia Women’s Tri-Nation Series and the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The 22-year-old made her international debut in a Women’s T20I against England in the tri-series, on February 2020. She has then represented the national side in both ODIs and Tests. She has impressive international statistics, with a top score of 109* in WODI and 137* in Tests.
