England’s legendary all-rounder Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff has finally spoken about the devastating Top Gear accident that significantly impacted his life. In a trailer for his upcoming BBC cricket series “Field of Dreams,” Flintoff addressed the incident that nearly derailed the show and changed his life forever.
In December 2022, Flintoff suffered a horrific crash while filming Top Gear at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey. The accident left him with serious facial injuries, requiring months of recovery. The BBC later apologized and settled with Flintoff with around nine million Euros, as per reports.
The new series of “Field of Dreams,” set to air next month, follows Flintoff as he takes a team of non-cricketers from his hometown of Preston on a tour to India. In the trailer, Flintoff addresses the accident.
“But something happened that changed my life forever. We’re all going to find out something about ourselves – me included,” he said.

Want the boys to learn to be outside their comfort zone: Andrew Flintoff
Flintoff’s return to the public eye has been gradual. He was first seen in September 2023, joining England’s cricket coaching staff as a mentor. Recently, he attended a screening of his new show, where onlookers noted his improved appearance.
“The scars from his Top Gear crash seem to have improved a lot since the accident and it was great to see him with a smile on his face again. It was like the old Freddie,” one onlooker said.

The series promises to be an emotional journey. He expressed his hopes for the young cricketers and called them his greatest achievement.
“From what I’ve done in my career. You lads are my greatest achievements. I want to take you on tour. I want to take you to India. I want the boys to learn to be outside their comfort zone. I just hope and pray that all the boys take these opportunities – and they grab it with both hands,” he concluded.
