‘An interesting and intriguing contest’ - Shubman Gill reflects on India’s upcoming series against Bangladesh

Team India is gearing up for a two-game Test series against Bangladesh. The series is all set to begin from September 19 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, and star batter Shubman Gill recently came forward and provided a straightforward message to his side.

The 25-year-old reflected on how India will not be underestimating Bangladesh in any way and is mindful of the recent performances that the side has put in. It is worth noting that Bangladesh recently upset Pakistan, defeating them across two Test matches in their backyard.

Under the leadership of Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh scripted history, defeating Pakistan in their own backyard. Bangladesh defeated Pakistan in the first Test by 10 wickets and won the second Test by six wickets. Talking of the same, Gill highlighted how important it is to not take Bangladesh lightly.

“I don’t think you can underestimate any international side; the kind of cricket Bangladesh has played in the last couple of months, especially in Pakistan, has been impressive. Their fast bowlers and the way their middle-order batters have absorbed pressure shouldn’t be disregarded. So, I believe it will be an interesting and intriguing contest,” Gill told JioCinema.

India eye WTC final as Bangladesh look to upset top-ranked team

The upcoming series against Bangladesh could prove to be critical for the Indian team, the side will take their practice and experience against Bangladesh to their upcoming home season, which will see another crucial series against New Zealand.

India currently tops the World Test Championship standings; with nine Tests played, the Indian team has won six matches, lost two, and one game has resulted in a draw. With 74 points to their name, India’s qualification in the WTC final is almost guaranteed.

On the other hand, Bangladesh sits in fourth place in the WTC standings. With six Tests played, Bangladesh has won three matches and lost the remaining three. With 33 points to their name, Bangladesh will hope for another upset against India.
