There were rumours of Virat Kohli playing in the upcoming Duleep Trophy and the star batter’s inclusion is now under shadow. Amidst the developments, Kohli’s old tweet regarding the domestic tournament is going viral on social media.
Notably, back in 2010, when the former India captain was two years into international cricket, he had asked his fans to wish him luck for the Duleep Trophy.
For the unversed, Kohli will complete 16 years of playing international cricket on August 18, the day he debuted for India in 2008 against Sri Lanka. If the 36-year-old features in the upcoming season of the Duleep Trophy, it will mark his first appearance in the Indian domestic circuit since 2015.
Moreover, after the criticism over Indian players skipping domestic cricket in 2023, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) mandated international players to be involved in domestic tournaments.
Here’s Virat Kohli’s old tweet on Duleep Trophy:

Ishan Kishan, who was reprimanded for not adhering to BCCI’s directive to feature in the recently concluded Rani Trophy will also likely be present in the tournament. Among players who will miss the season are star pacer, Jasprit Bumrah and veteran off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin. The duo will join the team directly when the first Test against Bangladesh gets underway in September.
