Alyssa Healy ‘surprised’ by no multi-format points system for India tour

Australia women are all set to kick off their multi-format series against India women from December 21. Both sides will face off in a one-off Test, three ODI matches, and three T20Is. Ahead of the series, Australia women’s skipper Alyssa Healy talked of how surprised she was that the series would not employ a no-points system and would have an overall winner.

The Test match, which will be held at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, will be Australia’s first Test match in India since 1984. However, unlike the series in 2021, the upcoming multi-format series will not have point-based system and will have no overall winner in the end.

“Yes or no, I think I can see value and merit in making them all separate and sort of rewarding the wins as you go. I can see the merit in that, but on the flip side of that, we’ve been a part of a few multi-format series where the points system has come into play, and it’s given the Test match in particular a greater context, in my mind,” Alyssa Healy was quoted as saying by Cricket.com.au.

I would have thought that India would have backed themselves in their home conditions: Healy

Further explaining the system, Healy opined that she thought the Indian team would have backed themselves in their home conditions. However, she also stated that it could be interesting to compete for different trophies across the multi-format series.

“And this might be a little bit cheeky, I would have thought that India would have backed themselves in their home conditions and got off to a four-nil start, so it does surprise me a little bit. But at the same time, it’ll be cool to just battle it out for three separate trophies,” Healy said.

With the series right around the corner, it could be interesting to see how the visitors fare in the Indian conditions and how Harmanpreet Kaur will look to target the Aussies in the series.
