Alyssa Healy experiences spectrum of emotions ahead of ‘most hyped Women’s Ashes’

With the Women’s Ashes 2023 right around the corner, there is a sense of both excitement and nervousness among the players of both England and Australia. Leading Australia in Meg Lanning’s absence, Alyssa Healy will look to make a considerable impact throughout the series and will try to lead from the front. 

With the series starting off with a one-off Test match from Thursday, June 22, at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, both sides would be keen on staying at the top of their game ahead of the clash. There could also be several changes to the Australian batting order. Where Phoebe Litchfield will be expected to open alongside Beth Mooney, Healy will look to drop down the order as she will be fulfilling her role as the wicketkeeper.

Ahead of the much-anticipated clash between Australia and England, Healy did not shy away from admitting to being nervous about the Women’s Ashes. She also opined that there is excitement about the same thing.

“A sense of nervousness but I think at the same time it’s mainly excitement; this is probably one of the most hyped Women’s Ashes series that I’ve been a part of over here and especially off the back of yesterday [Australia Men’s Test victory at Edgbaston] it’s a really exciting time to be out here to play cricket. From that sense, me and the whole entire group are just ready to get out and get underway and see what’s going to unfold,” Alyssa Healy was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. 

Five days ultimately could present a result: Healy

Furthermore, Healy also talked about how the five days of a Test match could ultimately produce a result. She also reflected on how certain aspects differentiate the women’s game from the men’s.

“Five days ultimately could present a result but there’s draws in five-day men’s games as well, I think over time, if women’s Test cricket does become more popular in the calendar, there’s certain nuances to our game that are slightly different from the men and how you prepare a wicket for a women’s Test match might be a little bit different and that will probably become clearer, with more and more cricket on the calendar as to how that might look to potentially get a result,”
