England women bowling all-rounder Alice Davidson-Richards and youngster Alice Capsey have been released from the Test squad for the upcoming match of the Women’s Ashes. Both players have released so they could compete for England A in their opening T20 match against Australia A at Haslegrave on June 21.

Capsey, who is yet to make her Test debut, will have to wait a little longer. The 18-year-old recently played for England against Australia A where she had a subpar outing, scoring nine runs and not taking any wickets in the seven overs she bowled.

On the other hand, Davidson-Richards has played just one Test match for England, where she took one wicket and scored 107 runs. She too featured in a few warm-up games for England A recently, where she scored 34 runs and did not take any wickets in 12 overs.

The A-side pushed the full Australian team hard: Richard Bedbrook

Talking about England A’s team composition, head of performance for England Women, Richard Bedbrook, came forward and opined that England A pushed the full-fledged Australian team to their limit recently and that they are excited to continue their progress in the T20 series.

“We’re really looking forward to getting our T20 series underway. The A-side pushed the full Australian team hard during the three-day warm-up, and with a number of quality individual performances, we’re very excited to continue competing across the T20 format against the Australian A-side,” Richard Bedbrook was quoted as saying by the Cricketer.

“Jon Batty will lead the A-side across the T20 and 50-over series. Jon has enjoyed success in The Hundred with Oval Invincibles and is vastly experienced in white-ball tournaments across the globe,” he added.
