Ajinkya Rahane has urged fellow Mumbai cricketers to make the most of the three-month-long off-season training camp organised by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). The preparatory camp has been launched on the theme titled ‘Home of the Champions’ for the forthcoming domestic season.

Rahane led Mumbai to a record-extending 42nd Ranji Trophy title after beating Vidarbha in the finals this year. He recently spoke about the importance of training camps, asserting that they provide the platform for the players to improve their fitness standards and devise game plans that will stand them in good stead when the season commences.

“It will inspire many youngsters to do well for Mumbai and carry the legacy forward and do well for Mumbai in all age groups (teams),” Rahane told media.

“Working on fitness and on your own game plan, because this is the time when you can actually focus on what areas you want to improve as an individual,” Rahane said when asked about what kind of work he would want the players to focus on.

“Once the season starts, it is all about what the team requires from you. These 2-3 months is all about getting better as individuals in terms of fitness and skills,” he added.

‘I am sure he will find good bowlers for Mumbai and India’ – Ajinkya Rahane on Dhawal Kulkarni’s appointment as bowling mentor

Former India cricketer and Mumbai legend, Dhawal Kulkarni, retired after winning his fifth Ranji Trophy final in March. He has been roped in as the bowling mentor for all teams across age groups (both men and women). Praising MCA’s decision to appoint Kulkarni in the important role, Rahane said that the 35-year-old has the ability to identify talent and groom them to success.

“It is a very good gesture from MCA. He has played Mumbai for so many years, he has represented India and I am sure that will be of help,” he said.
