Afghanistan discuss future cricket plans in nation during ACC’s latest meeting in Kuala Lumpur

Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) member countries attended a meeting chaired by the President of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the Asian Cricket Council, and the departing Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jay Shah. The topics discussed during the meeting in Kuala Lumpur, on September 11, were 2024 ACC tournaments, securing media rights for events to be held between 2024 to 2031, and inclusion of new countries as members.

The representatives of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) expressed their desire to host major ACC tournaments, besides talks with other countries during the meeting. The ACB also discussed the timely scheduling of the upcoming series in Afghanistan with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chairman. The plans regarding the events to be held from 2025 and 2026 were also part of the roster, where every member country gets the opportunity to tap into their potential.

Afghanistan leverage ACC meeting for country’s cricketing future

For the unversed, Bangladesh will land in Afghanistan for an all-format tour and this brings the international country to the land for the first time. The BCB has responded positively after an extended conversation regarding the impending series.

The long-going discussion of foraying cricket in the 2026 Asian Games also made it to the discussion. The members also evaluated the membership requests from Uzbekistan, Mongolia, and the Philippines. Afghanistan seemed to have drawn immense benefits from the meeting as their concerns were discussed amongst the major cricketing boards. The ACC also urged the members to attain a level of cooperation within boards of different countries.
