Afghanistan and Bangladesh are contesting in an all-important encounter at the Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown in the last Super Eights clash of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Batting first, Afghanistan posted a target of 116 for the Bangladeshi side on a tricky surface to score. In their defend, they started well to stop the opposition from chasing an underwhelming total, as Afghanistan must win to secure a place in the semi-finals, which could be their first in an ICC tournament.

Meanwhile, during the eighth over of the innings, Mohammad Nabi, the experienced spinner, came into the attack. The star cricketer created a chance on the third ball, but the fielder in the deep Fazalhaq Farooqi dropped a difficult catch, handing a reprieve to Towhid Hridoy. Adding injury to the assault, the batter hit consecutive boundaries, followed by a couple on the last ball of the over.

This moment agitated the Afghan head coach Jonathan Trott, who was seen bashing a dustbin in the dressing room, and turning his back in utter disappointment. Trott’s animated reaction could be understood, given there’s so much at stake for the Rashid Khan-led side.

The Afghan Skipper Rashid Khan took the matters in his own hands during the eleventh over, and sent two batters back to the pavilion. This included the big wicket of experienced batter Mahmadullah, followed by Rishad Hossain, who went back for a golden duck. In the same over, the skilled spinner gave away only three runs, bringing them back into the game.

However, in the very next over, the match was interrupted due to rain for the third time in the match. As a result, the overs were reduced and naturally, the target for Bangladesh also came down to 114. The match currently can go either way as the required run-rate isn’t a big deal for Bangladesh, and Litton Das is still at the crease.
