India skipper Rohit Sharma has slammed Ravi Shastri for making comments after the team lost in the third Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The cricketer-turned-commentator criticised team India after they lost the third Test at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. Meanwhile, Rohit expressed his displeasure on Shastri’s remark and termed it rubbish.

Shastri who is a part of the Star Sports commentary panel said that Rohit and Co. lost in the Indore test due to their overconfidence.

“This is what a little complacency, a little bit of overconfidence can do where you take things for granted, you drop guard and this game will bring you down,” Shastri had said on air while doing commentary in the third Test.

People on the outside feel that we are overconfident, it’s absolutely rubbish: Rohit

Rohit Sharma defended his side and slammed people criticising the team. The 35-year-old batter said that one who is inside the dressing room only knows the pressure the team goes through.

“Honestly, when you win two games and people on the outside feel that we are overconfident, it’s absolutely rubbish because you want to do your best in all four games,” said Rohit.

“You don’t want to stop by winning two games. It is as simple as that. Obviously, all these guys, when they talk about being overconfident and all and especially when they are not part of dressing room, they don’t know what sort of talk happens in dressing room,” the skipper added.

“We want to do best in all games and if it seems overconfident, or anything like that for outsiders, it doesn’t really matter to us. Because Ravi has been himself in this dressing room and he knows what sort of mindset we have when we play.”

“So yeah, it’s about being ruthless and not being overconfident. Ruthless is the word that comes to every cricketer’s mind, not to give an inch to opposition when they are touring abroad. We have also experienced that when we have toured outside, the opposition will never let you come into the game or series, and that is the mindset we have as well,” he concluded.

India won the first two Tests and have retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Rohit and co. faced a nine-wicket defeat in the third Test of the four-match series. India and Australia will face off in the final Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, March 9.
