Aamer Jamal ruled out of Bangladesh Tests with back issue

Pakistan’s fast-bowling all-rounder Aamer Jamal has been ruled out of the upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh due to persistent back issues. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed this development on Monday. No replacement has been announced, which has left a gap in the squad just days before the series opener.

Jamal’s exclusion is a huge blow to Pakistan’s bowling attack, especially considering his recent performance in Australia. The 27-year-old emerged as Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker in the away series, claiming 18 wickets in three Tests. His ability to contribute with both ball and bat made him a valuable asset to the team.

Initially selected with his participation subject to fitness clearance, Jamal has been suffering from lower back problems since May. These issues had already impacted his stint with Warwickshire in England, where he last played competitive cricket in June.

PCB yet to announce Jamal’s replacement

With Jamal’s absence, Pakistan’s squad for the first Test has been reduced to 14 players. The team is set to field an all-seam attack, relying on the likes of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, Mir Hamza, Khurram Shahzad, and Mohammad Ali to lead the bowling charge.

In addition to Jamal, Pakistan has also released wrist-spinner Abrar Ahmed and uncapped Kamran Ghulam. The two players will instead feature in the unofficial second Test for Pakistan Shaheens against Bangladesh A, starting August 20.

The PCB has directed Jamal to focus on his recovery at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. This is to make sure that he is fit for future engagements, particularly with an eye on the Test series against England in October.

Just seven years ago, he was working as a taxi driver in Australia. His Test debut in December last year marked a turning point, where he not only led Pakistan’s pace attack but also showed his batting skills with a quick-fire 82.
