Priyansh Arya received rich praise from former India cricketer Aakash Chopra after he slammed his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) ton on Tuesday, April 9, in the high-scoring clash between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Mullanpur.
The left-handed opener slammed a 39-ball century after PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bat first. The home side lost half their side for 83 runs in the eighth over. However, this didn’t stop Arya from playing his natural game, as he thrashed the CSK bowlers with resounding flair. When he was dismissed for 103 off 42 deliveries, PBKS had just 154 runs on the board, highlighting the single-handed effort from the Delhi batter.
“24-year-old Priyansh Arya, superstar Priyansh Arya, uncapped Indian Priyansh Arya, a Priyansh Arya who is the fourth-fastest to an IPL century, and the second-fastest Indian also to a century. It’s the first time ever in the IPL where one guy in the top six has scored a century, and all others had single-digit scores. Everyone else made a telephone number, and he scored a hundred,” Chopra said in a video shared on his YouTube channel.
Punjab are playing like Hyderabad: Chopra
Chopra noted that Punjab are playing an aggressive brand of cricket, which is similar to what the cricket enthusiasts associate with Sunrisers Hyderabad. Despite wickets falling from the other end, Arya didn’t change his style as he continued imposing himself on the CSK bowlers.
“Punjab are playing like Hyderabad. It seemed like harakiri at the start. Priyansh was hitting sixes, but wickets were falling at the other end. Everyone was getting out for single digits, but this guy was not stopping. A storm had come at one end, and this guy was going at a different Tsunami,” he stated.
Punjab finished at 219/6 in 20 overs after Shashank Singh formed a 65-run partnership off 38 deliveries. In reply, CSK could only manage 201/5, losing by 18 runs.
