21-year-old Tanzim Hasan Sakib picked up the wicket of Rohit Sharma in his debut ODI game in the Asia Cup 2023. He also dismissed Tilak Varma in the match and finished with 32/2 in 7.5 overs. Bangladesh won the game by six runs and moved an inch closer to the final but failed to do so. However, his performance against India will give him plenty of confidence ahead of the three-match T20I series, starting October 6.

Meanwhile, recalling Rohit’s dismissal in his debut game, Sakib stated that the cricketer was told that he was not ready for the star India batter. The Sylhet-born noted that he didn’t think much about what others said and focused on his job as he believes that a good delivery can get any cricketer out, doesn’t matter if he’s an international star or a domestic cricketer.

He added that the goal was to bowl in the right areas and trouble the batter. Notably, in the game, the Indian captain struggled to get going, losing his wicket off the second ball of the game.

“It was my debut match and Rohit Sharma was the opponent or there was Team India. Actually, to be honest, I didn’t think of that for once. I was told that I am new I won’t be ready for Rohit Sharma. But I was sure that I will play with my strength. If I can bowl at the right places and can make the new ball swing it will put any batter in trouble. I thought about what strength I have and tried to utilize that in the field, I didn’t think about who the opponent was,” Sakib was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

“I keep one thing in mind that a good ball is a good ball for everyone. Doesn’t matter if he is the number one batter or a domestic level cricketer, a good ball is a good ball for any batter. I always try to deliver my best ball,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sakib will be crucial for Bangladesh in the series against India. He picked up the wickets of Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav in the T20 World Cup 2024 but Bangladesh lost the game by 50 runs. The youngster would now be hoping to get the job done for the team.
