3 RCB bowlers to watch out for in IPL 2024

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) was one of the most active franchises in the IPL 2024 auction. They were always criticized for having one of the weakest bowling units in the tournament, especially playing their home games at one of the smallest ground in M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Many felt this was a reason why a team boasting of Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, and Virat Kohli, hasn’t won any IPL title yet.

But in the IPL 2024 auction, RCB went after the pacers, buying Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal, Lockie Ferguson, and Tom Curran to go with retained pacers like Mohammed Siraj, Vijaykumar Vyshak, and Akash Deep.

Here are the 3 RCB bowlers to watch out for in IPL 2024:

3. Reece Topley

Reece Topley, the England pacer, had to cut short his IPL 2023 appearance for RCB due to a shoulder injury. However, he did well for England in the World Cup 2023. The tall pacer has all the varieties to succeed on the docile Chinnaswamy pitch. He bowls cutters, back of and slow balls, and has the odd faster one to surprise the batter.

The 29-year-old has 210 wickets in 162 T20 matches with a best of 4/20 and an economy of 8.20. However, the injury-prone pacer had to leave the World Cup last year due to a complication. RCB will need to use Topley with care and manage his workload to get the best out of him.

2. Alzarri Joseph

Alzarri Joseph was a surprise release from Gujarat Titans. However, the West Indies vice-captain was bought by RCB for INR 11.50 Cr, and while many feel it is a very good purchase, though overpriced. He can bowl at 150 kph and regularly. The Windies pacer can also bowl a mean yorker at that high pace and boasts of an amazing bouncer to rattle the batters.

Joseph’s pace might come in handy for RCB in tandem with Mohammed Siraj and other pacers, where he can bowl in death overs. Joseph’s pace, however, might come in handy for batters to hit their shots, but he has shown enough maturity to deal with situations like this previously as well.

1. Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj will be the leader of RCB Team in the IPL 2024 season. He will have help from Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis, but with Josh Hazlewood being released, he will be expected to guide the young pacers in the RCB side as well. In all, Siraj has played 73 games for the RCB and has 68 wickets to his name. His economy has been 8.47 and his best bowling is 4/21.

Mohammed Siraj had joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise in IPL 2018 and was coming from the Sunrisers Hyderabad. But with Virat Kohli guiding him and backing him despite his issues with the economy rate in the early part of his IPL career, Siraj managed to bounce back not only in IPL but has become an asset for the Indian team as well.
