The coveted Indian Premier League (IPL) has gained immense popularity over the years, with top-notch performances from players throughout its 18 seasons. Fans love watching thrilling matches, and the IPL has consistently delivered excitement in every edition. The cash-rich tournament has also provided senior players with opportunities to make comebacks, which adds an interesting dimension to the league.

However, there are some players who might announce their retirement after the ongoing season and transition into commentary. These players have played numerous matches in the league, producing memorable knocks and taking crucial wickets. In this article, we’ll shed light on a few such players and their achievements in the tournament.

Here are top three players who could switch to commentary post-retirement:

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane might announce his retirement from the league after this season. The 36-year-old has been a part of the tournament since 2008 and has represented eight different franchises. Previously, he played brilliantly for two seasons with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

This season, KKR added another feather to his cap by appointing him captain. Regardless of the results, there are strong chances that he may retire from the IPL. He has had a marvellous career, which will be remembered fondly.

2. Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin started his IPL career with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and returned to the franchise after featuring for several other franchises over the years. He was phenomenal in the past but seems to have lost his edge this season. Moreover, he has retired from all formats of international cricket.

At the age of 38, Ashwin has a strong chance of moving into commentary, given his vast experience and the fact that he already runs a successful YouTube channel where he analyses matches and players in great detail. Hence, his transition from cricket to commentary may be just around the corner.

3. Faf du Plessis

Delhi Capitals’ (DC) new recruit Faf du Plessis may also retire from the IPL in the near future. Turning 40 this year, he has played in the tournament for over a decade. With such a vast experience, he would be a valuable addition to the commentary box post-retirement.

Du Plessis began his IPL journey with CSK in 2012 and is currently with DC. He remains one of the fittest players in the tournament. However, considering his age, there is a strong possibility that he might announce his retirement soon.
