The IPL 2024 will most likely be the final outing of legendary Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni. The 42-year-old will be playing his 17th straight season of the Indian Premier League and expects the CSK players to give him the perfect send-off. That means CSK defending their title which they won in IPL 2023.

The Chennai Super Kings’ batting unit looks excellent after the IPL 2024 auction. But when it comes to the bowling unit, there were some restrictions in IPL 2023 for MS Dhoni with a few key bowlers out injured and out of form. But in the upcoming IPL season, Dhoni will have his full bouquet of bowlers and much more to choose from as Shardul Thakur and Mustafizur Rahman have also joined the franchise.

Here are the top three Chennai Super Kings bowlers to watch out for in IPL 2024:

3. Maheesh Theekshana

Star Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana has been a blessing in disguise for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He was bought in IPL 2022 auction for INR 70 lakhs. This was despite CSK having spinners like Moeen Ali, Mitchell Santner and Ravindra Jadeja to boast of. However, Theekshana’s fastish finger spin brought a new dimension to the CSK bowling unit.

MS Dhoni smartly used Theekshana with both the new ball and even in death overs and the Sri Lankan spinners shined in both situations. He picked 12 and 11 wickets respectively in IPL 2022 and 2023. And his overall economy is just 7.77 with the best bowling of 4/33. Expect him to shine more in IPL 2024 as he is Dhoni’s go-to man for wickets.

2. Mukesh Choudhary

Mukesh Choudhary made his IPL debut in 2022 for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He shined with 16 wickets to his name in 13 matches at an economy of 9.32. His best bowling performance was 4/46. He missed the IPL 2023 due to a back injury and in fact missed all of the year in 2023. He is set to make his cricketing comeback in IPL 2024 and will give Dhoni an amazing bowling option up front.

Choudhary can swing the ball both ways at the top and can form a deadly partnership with Deepak Chahar. Dhoni smartly used Choudhary with the new ball itself and expect him to do the same in IPL 2024 as well. With him back, CSK will be favourites to defend their IPL title.

Deepak Chahar had missed the IPL 2022 due to a back injury and even in the IPL 2023, he missed quite a few games due to a hamstring injury. He did play 10 games, taking 13 wickets in all with a best of 3/22. Overall, in 73 IPL matches, Chahar has 72 wickets with a best of 4/13 and an economy of 7.93.

Chahar also made his India comeback recently and though he missed the South Africa tour due to his father’s illness, the pacer is roaring for a return. With the new ball, he gives MS Dhoni the assurance of wickets in the powerplay. Also, Chahar is expected to form a new ball partnership with either Shardul Thakur or Mukesh Choudhary, as both are big swingers of the new ball.
