MSK Prasad, former India cricketer and ex-chief selector, has joined Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as their new Strategic Consultant ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction. Meanwhile, the date and venue of the auction are yet to be announced.

LSG believes that the former India cricketer will bring valuable insights and experience to the franchise. Prasad, who has served as the Chairman of the Senior Selection Committee with the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), led the selection of the Indian team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup, in which India were knocked out after the semifinal defeat against New Zealand.

“Prasad brings with him a wealth of experience and a stellar track record in cricket operations, coupled with a passion that has driven him to remarkable achievements in both national and international arenas. His journey is marked by a range of accomplishments that span from representing the Indian National Cricket Team to steering the operations of prominent cricket associations; all of which will bring valuable insights and experience to our organization,” LSG said in an official statement.

Prasad has served as India’s chief selector in the past with a ‘3D’ controversy attached

MSK Prasad, who made his international debut in May 1998, has appeared in six Tests and 17 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for India. In Tests and ODIs, he has scored 106 and 131 runs, respectively. During his time at the BCCI, he was instrumental in directing talent scouting and player development in order to build a solid talent pipeline for the Indian national team in all three formats.

Apart from his association with the BCCI, the 48-year-old has also been the Director of Cricket Operations at the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA). With ACA, he oversaw the creation of state-of-the-art coaching facilities in 13 districts around the state.

The former chief selector usually prefers to have all-rounders in the team, who can provide significant contributions in all three formats. For the 2019 Cricket World Cup, the right-handed batter controversially selected young prodigy, Vijay Shankar, over the seasoned campaigner in Ambati Rayudu.
