Sunrisers Eastern Cape will lock horns with Durban’s Super Giants in the 5th match of the SA20 2024 at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on January 13. Sunrisers Eastern Cape were outstanding last season as they emerged victorious in the inaugural edition of the tournament, while Durban’s Super Giants were not too happy with their performance of four wins from 10 matches in the league stage.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape squared off against Pretoria Capitals in their last encounter, where Sunrisers Eastern Cape won the toss and elected to bowl. Capitals could feel the pressure of the final once they lost a couple of wickets after starting aggressively. They kept losing wickets one after the other and soon were bowled out for a below-par total of 135. The Sunrisers lost an early wicket in an attempt to start aggressively but did not mind much as the second wicket partnership set the tone of the chase. They won the match easily by four wickets.

Durban’s Super Giants played against MI Cape Town in their last match, where Durban’s Super Giants won the toss and elected to bowl. Cape Town had an electric start as they smashed 82 runs for the opening stand. They kept the scoring rate up and found regular boundaries. With the help of some good finishing touches, they smashed a good total of 207 runs. Super Giants did not start well and lost two wickets early, but then their solid middle order pulled them back into the game. Klaasen’s another feisty knock led them to score 177 runs at the end of 16.3 overs when rain arrived. They won the match by 11 runs (DLS Method).

St George’s Park in Gqeberha offers a pitch that is quite equally helpful to batters as well as bowlers in nature. Pacers are expected to do well here with good swing and movement off the pitch, and batters, too, once settled, can look to score big. Teams prefer to chase the total after winning the toss, with the average first innings score being 147.
