HK vs MAL will face off in the first unofficial ODI series of the three-match series at Hong Kong Cricket Club in Hong Kong on Tuesday, February 6.

Both these sides are coming into this series on the back of a Hong Kong 50-over tri-series involving Canada as the third side. Malaysia came out on top after defeating Canada in the grand finale of the tri-series by three wickets with one ball to spare.

These two sides locked horns in the tri-series on January 31, 2024, where Malaysia came out on top by two runs a thrilling affair. Batting first, Malaysia posted a whopping total of 277/4 in 50 overs. Syed Aziz (53), and Sharvin Muniandy (125) were the top-scorers in the innings. Ehsan Nawaz scalped two wickets for HK.

In response, Hong Kong opener Anshuman Rath smacked a 108-run knock in 119 balls, including 10 fours and two sixes. He received decent support from captain Nizakat Khan with 77 runs. However, other batters couldn’t sustain the momentum. Eventually, they fell short by just two runs. Vijay Unni picked up a three-wicket haul for Malaysia.

Hong Kong Cricket Club has hosted only T20 games so far. However, we’ve witnessed a lot of scoring from batters while bowlers have to give their best to shun the run-scoring rate and turn the tables. Any score above 250 would be tough for the chasing sides to win.
