Canterbury Magicians Women will lock horns with Central Hinds Women in the 14th match of the Women’s Super Smash 2023 at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on January 5. Canterbury Magicians Women have won and lost two matches each from their four games and are third in the rankings. Central Hinds Women, on the other hand, have been topping the charts with three wins from four games.

Canterbury Magicians Women squared off against Otago Sparks Women in their last match, where Canterbury Magicians Women won the toss and elected to bat. They started really well, with the opening pair lasting for 72 runs. The top order looked in great touch and scored well which led the team to a good total of 145 runs on the board. Otago had a horrible start to their innings, which just kept on getting worse with each passing over. Soon, they were bowled out for just 69 runs and lost the game by a huge margin of 76 runs.

Central Hinds Women had played against Canterbury Magicians Women in their last encounter, where Canterbury Magicians Women won the toss and elected to bowl. Due to persistent rain, the match was reduced to 12 overs a side. Hinds lost a wicket early but followed by decent partnerships; they were still able to score a total of 79 runs. Canterbury, in return, had started well, but the loss of wickets also led them to score slowly. By the end of eight overs, they had scored 54 runs and were still behind the DRS score of 60 runs. That is when rain arrived again, and the match could not be continued, so they lost the game by six runs.

The track at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch is quite more helpful to batters in nature. Spinners are expected to do well here with good turns and bounce off the pitch. Batters, once settled, can look to score big. Teams prefer to chase the total after winning the toss, with the average first innings score being 122.
