Younis Khan's top 3 batting innings in ODI Cricket

Younis Khan left an indelible impact for Pakistan in test cricket but he was equally effective in the limited overs format. Fans generally remember him for his long and tiring knocks in test cricket but he played several innings in ODI cricket which were as significant. In this article, we will take a look at the top 3 batting innings of Younis Khan in ODI cricket.

Top 3 batting innings of Younis Khan in ODI cricket:

1. 144 vs Hong Kong, 2004

Younis Khan played the best knock of his ODI career in the 2004 Asia Cup in Colombo. The Pakistan captain Inzamam Ul Haq won the toss and elected to bat first. Pakistan’s start was not on the expected lines as they lost two early wickets in the first 10 overs. Younis Khan along with Shoaib Malik built a huge partnership of 223 runs to dominate Hong Kong after a shaky start. Courtesy of this partnership Pakistan scored 343 runs in the first innings which proved to be too much for Hong Kong. Eventually, Pakistan bagged the match by a massive margin of 173 runs.

2. 123* vs India, 2008

Another century from Younis Khan in the Asia Cup but this one against a much stronger opposition, the arch-rivals India. In a Super Four match in Karachi, Younis Khan emerged as the match-winner with the bat. Batting first, India had posted a challenging target of 309 runs on the board. Pakistan needed a brilliant show with the bat to chase down such a huge total. Younis Khan once again stepped up for his team. He scored an unbeaten century to lead Pakistan to a comfortable victory in an arduous run chase. Pakistan won the high-profile encounter by 8 wickets and Younis Khan was adjudged the player of the match.

3. 117 vs India, 2007

Younis Khan enjoyed batting against India which is evident from his many impactful knocks against the arch-rivals across formats. He made this attractive century in the second match of the ODI series between the two teams at Mohali. Once again Pakistan was chasing a mammoth total. The Indian team scored 321 runs in the first innings and put Pakistan on the back foot. But it was yet again Younis Khan who rescued his team from an adverse situation. His century helped Pakistan win this match in a thrilling fashion as they crossed the finishing line with just one ball to spare.
