Women's T20 World Cup 2024: Predicting Sri Lanka's Playing XI for their clash against India

Sri Lanka faces a do or die situation ahead of their key game against India on Wednesday. Chamari Atapattu and her team have to win to keep their faint hopes alive. Sri Lanka not only has to win but also pray that the other results go their way to qualify for the knockout phase of the tournament.

The last time the Sri Lankans met India was during the 2024 Asia Cup where they beat Harmanpreet Kaur’s team to win the title. It was a huge win for the home team as it was the first time they had won the title against one of the powerhouses.

The 34-year-old Sri Lankan skipper will be wary of the threat India has and what they can do on the field. The Lankans have a team mixed with experience and youth and will hope the catch team India unawares and wins their 1st game of the tournament. After losses against Pakistan and Australia, this is a must-win game for the Lankans.

Here is the likely Sri Lanka XI vs India:

Top order

Vimshi Gunaratne

Sri Lankan opener Vimshi Gunaratne and skipper Atapattu failed to do well in the game against Australia. The two batters managed to score just 0 and 3 respectively to put their team in early pressure versus Australia. The two batters will hope to find form and do well against India, Harshita Madavi was 2nd best batter against Australia with 23 off 35 balls with 2 hits to the fence.

Middle Order

Kavisha Dilhari

Kavisha Dilhari managed to score a mere 5 runs with the bat. The Indian side knows how dangerous she can be with the bat. On her day, Kavisha Dillari can take the game away against any team with the bat in hand. Nilakshi De Silva was Lanka’s top scorer against Australia with 29 runs off 40 balls. If it wasn’t for this knock Australia would have well bowled out Sri Lanka for a much lesser total.

Lower-order

Hasini Perera

Hasini Perera has found the going tough in this tournament but her team knows the kind of talent she has with the bat. Wicketkeeper and batter Anushka Sanjeevani scored 16 runs and was one of the 3 players to reach double figures in the game against Australia. Sugandikka Kumari was decent with the ball with one wicket and that of Elyse Perry.

Tail enders

Chamari Atapattu

Chamari Atapattu will hope that her two leading bowlers Prabodhini and Priyadarshini can come to the fore against India. The former picked 1 wicket while the latter didn’t manage to get even one scalp. Ranaweera bowled 3 overs, got 1 wicket and gave away 20 runs against Australia.
