Wasim Jaffer’s top 3 performances in first-class cricket

Wasim Jaffer's top 3 performances in first-class cricket

Wasim Jaffer is someone who needs no introduction. He was the undisputed king of domestic cricket. His first-class career lasted for around two decades and he accumulated tons of runs to register his name among the greats of Indian cricket. In this article, we will look at Wasim Jaffer’s top 3 performances in first-class cricket

314* vs Saurashtra, 1996/97

Wasim Jaffer introduced himself into first-class cricket with this unbeaten triple century against Saurashtra in the 1997/97 season of the Ranji Trophy. It was the second match of his first-class career but Jaffer batted like an experienced campaigner to lead the Mumbai batting unit. Batting first, Saurashtra scored 595 runs posing a big challenge to Mumbai. However, Wasim Jaffer dwarfed this total with his triple century as his unbeaten knock led Mumbai to a total of 647 runs. The match eventually ended in a draw and Jaffer’s contribution was instrumental in getting this result for his team.

301 vs Saurashtra, 2008/09

Another triple century against one of his favourite oppositions, Saurashtra. Wasim smashed this triple-ton in the 2008/09 season of the Ranji Trophy. Mumbai had a lot of star power as the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Amol Muzumdar, Ajinkya Rahane, and Rohit Sharma were playing for them but among this league of big names, Wasim Jaffer shone the brightest. He scored 301 runs helping his team to post a total of 637 runs in the first innings. This first innings batting performance was enough for Mumbai to dominate Saurashtra throughout the game.

286 vs Rest of India, 2018

After ending his stint with Mumbai Jaffer joined Vidarbha and witnessed unprecedented success. This is one of his best innings that he played for Vidarbha. Even in the twilight phase of first-class career Wasim Jaffer batted for long periods. In the 2018 Irani Trophy, Vidarbha faced off with Rest of India and the veteran batter led his team from the front with an outstanding double century that carried his team to a massive total of 800 runs in the first innings. The match eventually ended in a draw but Vidarbha lifted the trophy based on the lead in the first innings.
