As is known to everyone, Zimbabwe cricket was in decent shape in 2000–2001, but they weren’t about to face something dreadful that would ruin their cricket for close to two decades. Zimbabwe took part in three World Cups—in 2007, 2011, and 2015—but only three of their 15 games ended in wins. Notably, the Apex Cricket Council discontinued sponsoring Zimbabwean cricket in July 2019 and imposed a ban. Zimbabwe cricket wasn’t going to return, despite the Apex Cricket Council lifting the suspension a month later and allowing them to compete in major competitions.

They had been further damaged by their failure to earn a spot for the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to witness if they qualify for the forthcoming World Cup 2023 or not. Notably, they have performed well in their first round of Cricket World Cup Qualifiers, winning three matches out of four and heading towards super sixes.

The top Zimbabwean ODI World Cup wicket-takers are listed here.

1. Heath Streak (22)

Heath Streak is a great fast bowler with remarkable strength and stamina who can bowl outswing at a good pace and with outstanding control. In addition to serving as an outstanding fielder, the 49-year-old is also a highly talented batter who enjoys hitting the ball over the infield. Notably, he has scalped the maximum wickets for his country during the 50-over World Cup with figures of 22.

2. Eddo Brandes (16)

Former Zimbabwe cricketer Eddo Brandes holds position two for scalping the maximum number of wickets for his country in the 50-over World Cup. He managed to scalp 16 wickets in his tenure, including 14 in the 1992 World Cup. Notably, the former Zimbabwe all-rounder managed to place himself among the top 5 cricketers when it came to the number of wickets during the 1992 Cricket World Cup. His 4/21 against the England team was his best showing.

3. John Traicos (16)

Former Zimbabwe cricketer John Traicos is at number three for the maximum number of wickets collected during the ODI World Cup. He has 16 wickets to his name. Interestingly, the off-spinner made his debut for South Africa initially and later played for Zimbabwe. The 76-year-old had been considered a great bowler for performing exceptionally well under pressure and in tight situations.
