Top wicket-takers for Sri Lanka in the ODI World Cup

The Sri Lanka cricket team has won the 50-over World Cup only once, as they lifted the 1996 edition of the Cricket World Cup after defeating Australia in the final match. Notably, after that golden moment, Sri Lanka managed to produce outstanding cricketers who profoundly influenced the sport of cricket worldwide. Additionally, they possess the unique accomplishment of making it to the World Cup finals on consecutive occasions: in 2007, falling to Australia, and once more in 2011, when they lost to the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Indian squad.

Notably, Sri Lanka was considered a very strong side, but after their poor performance in the 2015 World Cup, they were considered an under feasible team. Furthermore, in that year, cricket greats Sangakkara and Jayawardene retired from international play. Since then, Sri Lanka has had trouble finding suitable replacements for the two, and their performance has declined. This year, Sri Lanka is currently playing qualifiers to qualify for the World Cup. Notably, during their robin rounds, they performed well, winning four matches and making it into the Super Sixes. Sri Lanka is the most favorable team that can qualify for this year’s World Cup, which will take place in India in October.
