Top three players with the most run-outs in international cricket

Getting run out in the game of cricket can be unfortunate for a batter. This dismissal spoils all the hard work done by the batters, especially in Test cricket. After all, in red-ball cricket, the bowlers give hard time to batters. Even if the batters manage to survive, the last thing they would want is to get run out.

Over the years, it is always said that for completing a run, batters must have a good understanding. However, despite this, there are some batters who still make a mistake while running between the wickets. This cost them their wicket. In this listicle, we will discuss three players who have gotten run out across formats most time.

Three players with the most runouts

1. Rahul Dravid

The current India Men’s head coach was one of the most technically correct batters in world cricket. In ODI and Tests, he amassed more than 10000 runs in each format. Not to forget, he stitched a memorable partnership with VVS Laxman in the iconic Kolkata Test in 2001.

However, for some strange reason, he has the most run-outs across formats. He has played only one T20I but didn’t got run out in the game. However, in Tests and ODIs combined, the former India skipper has gotten out 53 times (40 in ODIs and 13 in Tests).

2. Mahela Jayawardene

The former Sri Lanka skipper has the second most run-outs at the highest level. Unlike Dravid, he also got run out a few times in T20I cricket. However, the most time he has gotten run out is 39 in ODI cricket. Notably, he was one of the batters who always believed in ticking the scoreboard.

Maybe that method caught up on a few occasions in the 50-over cricket. Talking about his run-out dismissals in Tests and T20Is, he has gotten out in this fashion seven and five times respectively.

3. Marvan Atapattu

Another Sri Lanka player features in the list. Even though he has a lesser number of runouts than his former teammates across formats, Atapattu has gotten run out more times than Mahela in ODI cricket. The former has gotten out in this manner 41 times.

On the other hand, both players have gotten run out seven times each in Tests. In T20Is, Atapattu never got run out in the two games he played.
