In Test cricket, getting double hundreds demands a lot of skill, attention, hard work and good batting surfaces. It is not surprising that only 83 players have scored double centuries in men’s Test cricket over the course of 145 years. But there are a few who have multiple double centuries to their name and today we are going to discuss some of the best names who might be remembered in history for being part of this iconic list. The top 3 Test cricketers with the most double centuries will be discussed in this article. 

3) Brian Lara – 9

The third player on this list of those with the most double hundreds in the longer format is Brian Lara, popularly known as the prince of Trinidad. Lara scored 11953 runs at an average of 52.88 in 131 games, including 34 hundreds and 48 fifty-sixes. He was able to turn 9 of the 34 tonnes into double hundreds. In the third year of their professional career, against Australia in Sydney, Lara scored his maiden double century. He scored two more double hundreds against Australia because he loved playing against them and loved challenging the mighty Australian team. In his previous Test in Multan against Pakistan, he scored a double century. Lara achieved five double hundreds while serving as captain of the West Indies team.

2) Kumar Sangakkara – 11

With 11 Test double tons, Kumar Sangakkara, probably Sri Lanka’s best cricketer ever, is ranked second. With 12400 runs from 134 appearances at an average of 57.40, the former Sri Lankan skipper has a remarkable record in Test cricket. Sangakkara has hit 38 hundreds and 52 fifties in the Test format. The Sri Lankan batsman defeated Pakistan in Lahore in 2002 and recorded his first double century. His 12 Test double tons included two each against Pakistan and South Africa, three against Bangladesh. Sangakkara’s most recent double century occurred in 2015 in Wellington against New Zealand.

Don Bradman, arguably the best batter in the game’s history, owns the record for the most double hundreds in the red-ball format. The legendary Australian player, whose career lasted 20 years and was overshadowed by the Second World War, amassed 12 Test double tons. With 6996 runs scored in 52 career matches, Bradman has an impressive record in the Test format. In his playing career, the former Australian captain amassed 29 hundreds and 13 fifties. His last Test double century was against India in 1948, although his first was in 1930 at Lord’s against England.
