Starting in 1975, The men’s ODI world cup has grown to be an eminent tournament in Cricket. Initially started as a shorter format for tests, the first three editions of the ODI world cup consisted of 60 overs each inning for a team. From 1987, the number of overs for a team was reduced to 50 overs. Many such rules have changed over the years. But the ODI world cup tournament remains to be the elite tournament in the sport. Here are the top run scorers for India in the ODI world cups.

1. Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar isn’t just the highest run scorer for India, but also the highest run scorer ever in the history of ODI world cups. The master blaster represented India in six world cups from 1992 to 2011 – The joint most for a player in ODI world cups. Considered as God of cricket by many, Tendulkar played 45 matches and scored a whopping 2278 runs at a good average of 56.95, at a strike rate of 88.98, including six hundred in world cups.

2. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is the second-highest run-scorer in ODI World Cup among active cricketers. The former Indian captain has had the most runs in ODI world cups since his debut. The stylish batter has represented India in three world cups from 2011 to 2019. Passionately called King by many, Virat has played 26 matches and scored 1030 runs at an average of 46.81, at a strike rate of 86.70, including two hundred in world cups.

3. Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly is the third-highest run scorer for India in ODI world cups. The southpaw also holds the record for highest individual score by an Indian batter in world cups. Ardently called Dada by his fans, Ganguly represented India in three world cups from 1999 to 2007. One of the highest run-getters of his time, Sourav played 21 matches and scored 1006 runs at an average of 55.88, at a strike rate of 77.50, including four hundreds in world cups.
