Top run scorers for Zimbabwe in ODI World Cup

Zimbabwe made their debut in the World Cup in 1983. In the very first match, the African team upset Australia by beating them by 13 runs. The Zimbabwean team was competitive in many world cups till 2003.

Most notably in 1999, the spirited men beat teams like Kenya, South Africa, and India, and entered the super six stage in the tournament, which is also their best performance in a world cup. Regarded as the greatest Zimbabwean player ever, Andy Flower is the leading run-scorer for his team in the world cup. Considered one of the greatest wicket keeper batters of All-time, Flower is the highest run scorer for Zimbabwe in both tests and ODIs.

A fine player of spin, Andy represented Zimbabwe in four world cups from 1992 to 2003. The Southpaw scored 815 runs in 30 matches for Zimbabwe at an average of 32.60, at a strike rate of 68.20, including a hundred in the world cup.

2. Brendan Taylor

Brendan Taylor was good for Zimbabwe in the world cup. The wicketkeeper-batter played some good knocks in the world cup, notably against India in the 2015 season where his 138(110) helped Zimbabwe to post a total of 287 on the board. Brendan represented Zimbabwe in three world cups from 2007 to 2015.

The Zimbabwean great scored 690 runs in 15 matches for Zimbabwe at an average of 46.00, at a strike rate of 88.68, including a couple of hundred in the world cup.

Dave Houghton is regarded as one of the finest batters of Zimbabwe. The 66-year-old was the first centurion for Zimbabwe in the world cup. Against a team like New Zealand in 1987, Dave scored a magnificent 142(137) chasing 243. Unfortunately, Zimbabwe lost that game by just 3 runs.

Houghton represented Zimbabwe in three world cup tournaments from 1983 to 1992. The gritty batter scored 567 runs in 20 matches for Zimbabwe at an average of 29.84, at a strike rate of 63.00, including a hundred in the world cup.
