Top 3 West Indies players to play most T20I matches

The West Indies cricket team is a powerhouse in the T20 format, boasting top hitters like Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, and Andre Russell. With the most T20 World Cup victories, they are highly sought after in franchise cricket leagues, contributing to the success of any T20 league. In addition to it, it is not wrong in saying that they have pretty much paved the road for the T20 brand of cricket with their eye-catching brand of cricket. Despite the rift between the players and board, let us look at top three West Indian player with most appearances in the shortest format of the game;

1. Nicholas Pooran- 85 matches

Nicholas Pooran

Nicholas Pooran solidified his reputation as one of the most promising young batting talents following the U/19 World Cup. A year after emerging as the fourth-highest run-scorer in the U-19 World Cup in early 2014, Pooran faced a significant car accident resulting in a torn patella tendon, fractured tibia, and fractured ankle.

But it did not stop him from making a comeback and announcing himself in an even more devastating way. Currently, Pooran plays only T20 cricket for West Indies and travels across the globe playing franchise T20 cricket. Till now he has represented the West Indies team in 85 matches and has scored 1811 runs with 11 half centuries to his name.

2. Dwayne Bravo- 91 matches

Dwayne Bravo

In the modern era, few players have garnered the level of acclaim that Dwayne Bravo has achieved. While the rise of T20 cricket, especially the IPL, played a significant role, Bravo’s unique flair and personality set him apart. A versatile cricketer adept with both bat and ball, he also showcased exceptional fielding skills. These qualities made him a highly sought-after player in T20 leagues. Bravo’s proficiency in white-ball cricket, his ability to bowl as a conventional seam bowler, and his excellence in the slog overs made him invaluable to his team.

There will be no wrong in saying that he will go down as one of the greatest T20 cricketers of all time. Bravo participated in seven World Cups in the T20 format, securing victory in two of them. Additionally, he clinched over 15 titles in various franchise leagues and achieved the milestone of being the first bowler to reach 500 T20 wickets. He has represented West Indies in 91 matches picking up 78 wickets and scoring 1255 runs.

3. Kieron Pollard- 101 T20Is

Kieron Pollard

Kieron Pollard, a potent lower-middle-order batsman and a useful medium-pacer with adept changes of pace, marked his ODI debut in the 2007 World Cup against South Africa. His breakthrough moment occurred during the 2009 Champions League tournament when he played a pivotal role in South Australia’s victory with a spectacular 18-ball 54 against New South Wales. This performance garnered immediate recognition, leading to his inclusion in the Mumbai Indians for the Big Bash, secured through a silent tie-breaker for an undisclosed amount.

Opting to prioritize T20 cricket globally, Pollard declined a central contract from the West Indies Cricket Board. However, he continued to represent the West Indies in ODIs and T20s, with the board granting him permission to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL). But eventually, he became the first West Indian player to play 101 T20Is. Pollard has picked up 42 wickets and scored 1569 runs in the process.
