West Indies is one of the biggest countries in terms of history in the game of cricket. They were a major force to reckon with in the late 20th century in ODIs and Tests but since then they have been a team to be scared of in the shortest format of the game.
They have had some great players represent them in the T20 format including Keiron Pollard, Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Andre Russell amongst others. They have been sold for a heap load of money in the Indian Premier League as well but there are very rarely any great bowlers who have made a mark in the IPL from West Indies. Let’s take a look at the top 3 West Indian bowlers with most wickets in the IPL.
3) Andre Russell (96 scalps)
Andre Russell, is one of the most explosive and powerful batters in the history of the Indian Premier League. His finishing abilities have been amongst the best and always pulls back the game for his side with his electrifying boundaries.
But his bowling abilities sometimes go under the radar as he is as lethal with the ball as he is with a bat in his hand. He has taken 96 scalps and also has a great average of just around 22. He is third on the list of the highest wicket takers in the IPL from West Indies and is a far way off the top two bowlers.
2) Sunil Narine (161 wickets)
Sunil Narine, is known more for his prowess in franchise cricket more than International cricket. He has been a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders squad since 2012 and has been part of the two championship winning sides in 2012 and 2014. He was a key part of the KKR side that won those two titles.
He has taken 161 wickets in the history of the Indian Premier League and is still a bowler who can deceive the batter with the kind of variations he has in his skill-set. He has an economy of just over 6 which is an excellent return by any bowler in the shortest version of the game.
1) Dwayne Bravo (183 wickets)
During his team’s contest versus Lucknow Super Giants in Mumbai during the Indian Premier League 2022, former all-rounder Dwayne Bravo of Chennai Super Kings surpassed Lasith Malinga to take the title of the IPL’s top wicket-taker. He retired last season with 183 wickets to his name.
His record of the highest wicket-taker in the league was then taken over by Yuzvendra Chahal earlier this season. Dwayne Bravo is still one of the best players from the West Indies to play in the Indian Premier League and he surely has the stats to vouch for it.
