Top 3 talking points from India vs West Indies 2nd Test

Top 3 talking points from India vs West Indies 2nd Test

The second Test of the series between the West Indies and India was called off because of rain at Port of Spain in Trinidad on Monday. Mohammed Siraj was named as the man of the match. Virat Kohli scored a sensational 121 runs ending his five years drought of overseas centuries, which led India to score 438 in the first innings.

In reply, the hosts were bundled out for just 255, with the Windies captain Kraigg Braithwaite scoring a fighting 75 runs off 235 balls, with the support of Alick Athanaze, who scored 37 off 115 balls. Mohammed Siraj was the pick of the bowlers for India who picked up 5 for 60. In the second innings, India started aggressively putting 100 in just 12.2 overs. They declared 181/2. In response, the hosts were 76/2 at the end of Day 4.

Here are the 3 Talking Points from the second West Indies vs India clash:

3. Ishan Kishan possible replacement for Rishabh Pant

The Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper-batter earned his maiden Test call-up during the home series against Australia earlier this year and was also a part of the squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final.

He got his first cap in the first test, in Dominica and did well behind the stumps. He did not get to bat in the first test. Coming to the 2nd Test Kishan played an aggressive 52 runs off 34 balls with a strike rate of 152.94. Fans are seeing him as a possible replacement in Rishabh Pant’s absence.

2. Mohammed Siraj leading the attack

Mohammed Siraj impressed with his spell in the first innings. He helped India to restrict the hosts below 300 in a dead pitch. The pacer has led by example in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami for the inexperienced bowling attack against the Windies.

Before the ODI World Cup, it might be a relief for the Indian selectors that Siraj’s form has been good. The Hyderabad pacer has been even impressive in white-ball cricket for the National team as well as in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

1. Virat Kohli’s ends overseas century drought

Virat Kohli once again stepped up when India was in trouble at 182/4. Throughout the game, he appeared to have remarkable form. India batted first on a somewhat level pitch, hoping to put up a huge total in the first innings.

Kohli helped them achieve exactly that. Kohli’s performance of 121 runs in 206 deliveries was critical for India’s total of 438 runs. In his 500th International encounter, he also set a few records, becoming the first player to score a century in his 500th match. The 34-year-old ended his five-year drought of scoring an overseas century as well.
