Indian team won the second T20I of the series convincingly as they prevailed over the Aussies by 44 runs. With this victory, they have taken a 2-0 lead in the series which makes it even tougher for Australia to make a comeback and win the series.
The top 3 talking points from the second T20I between India and Australia:
Indian Top Order
The Indian top-order played exceptionally well in the second T20I, especially the opening pair. The opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad struggled in the first T20I in Visakhapatnam, but they delivered in Thiruvananthapuram. Both of them made half-centuries which rocketed off India’s innings.
At No.3 Ishan Kishan once again chipped in with another half-century to carry on the momentum that was provided by the openers. Kishan didn’t get too many opportunities in the ODI World Cup but he is grabbing every opportunity that he is being given in this series which is a big positive for India.
Ravi Bishnoi
The young leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi in many ways clinched the match for India by taking wickets at crucial stages. In the first T20I, he was really expensive as he conceded more than 50 runs in his 4 overs but it was a quick turnaround for Ravi Bishnoi at Thiruvananthapuram. He gave the first breakthrough to India by sending Matthew Short back in the pavilion, once again.
It did not take too long for Bishnoi to get his second wicket as he dismissed Josh Inglis in his next over. Inglis scored an explosive century in the last match and he could have made a huge difference for Australia in the second T20I but Bishnoi had different intentions. In the middle overs, Marcus Stoinis and Tim David built a partnership and it looked as if they were taking the game away from India but Bishnoi got the better of Tim David and brought India back into the game.
Steve Smith
Steve Smith once again has come under the scanner with his underwhelming performance in the second T20I. In the first match at Visakhapatnam, he made a half-century but not with an impressive strike rate. Being an opener, he has the responsibility to take the initiative especially when a team is chasing a mammoth target. Smith could only score 19 runs off the 16 deliveries that he faced which prevented Australia from getting off to a flyer in the run chase. There needs to be careful introspection on whether he is the perfect fit for the opening slot in this format.
